Belated review for all of you Little Big Planet fans out there! Now for the PSP, Sony’s exclusive creation “Sack-Boy” has made it to the PSP on their new-ish game, Little Big Planet. (PSP) Received from my brother on Christmas. However, the reason this review became “Belated” (As in, passed it’s needed time) Is due to the problems I faced, such as a vague glitch that has rendered me unable to download or publish maps until I download a patch that’s already downloaded. That aside, if your still reading this, I suppose it’s time to do some reviewing!
As I said, I am unable to download or publish maps and creations, which is the least of my worries as Little Big Planet (PSP) is of course, merely the PS3 version inside a conveniently small package. Not saying it’s lost its spark, simply its replay value, without a co-op or multiplayer option. Not to say the other aspects of the game aren’t worth a try.
To start the ball rolling, graphics, the staple for advertising a game, if it doesn’t look good, it’s not worth looking at! And well put, the graphics are a success for the PSP, with its inability to produce solid console visuals, the PSP still manages to pull off a simple yet elegant view for the player. However, it has become increasingly evident of the games “Yin-Yang” designs. (God I hate that word) The graphics look good, nothing to throw a parade over, it’s just a PSP, and you might be playing it waiting for your turn on the PS3’s Little Big Planet. But the negative side emerges when you try on some fancy new duds and try to take a look at your Sack-Boy, which can become a tad annoying when your stuffed avatar is to a near microscopic scale. Maybe you can see him/her perfectly, but expect people to strain their eyes when they look over your shoulders.
Graphics aside, once someone has purchased a game, graphics are left in the dust compared to the next aspect, actual game play. While I drink tea and listen to the Beatles, it’s easy for me to say; THIS is the reason to (at least) try this game. So your character is small, and a little grainy. (Totally normal for a PSP) This is nothing compared to the hilariously racist creations in the story. Really, what other game will have you rolling über-fat children across the Swiss Alps dodging skiers. Every area in the levels is a caricature of its culture. Remember when you saw a foreigner and felt compelled to point out the man’s every key feature? This game did, that’s why it has a place in my heart. (My, twisted, racist, black, heart…..) When your not laughing at the black villager in Australia who’s trying to get you high, (Really, not joking) Your partaking in puzzles that break the barrier of your comprehension and leave you utterly thoughtless. (Mindboggling) Everything is kept simple, you’ll never forget how to do something, just what to do. It is a puzzle after all.
Little Big Planet (PSP) is Mario for Sony, only this Mario isn’t a fat Plummer saving a princess who is already in another castle. (How many castles does she have!? Answer; clearly not enough) though short, this game will provide constant entertainment. I recommend you buy this game if you’re going on a road trip. 9.1/10
